The Brew Review: Numi Blooming Tea
Today’s Brew Review features Numi Flowering Tea. I experienced Numi tea in the past and I generally like the brand but their latest creation blows my mind. Numi’s Flowering Tea consist of hand-sewn tea leaves and flower blossoms that literally bloom when steeped in bowling water.
Numi’s Flowering Tea is picked from handpicked tea leaves that are sewn together by cotton thread. Some leaves are scented with jasmine or rose to intensify the flavor. Once they bloom, the flowers take a gorgeous shape and look absolutely beautiful!
Steeping instructions are as follows:
Place on Flowering Tea blossom in a glass teapot or tea cup.
Bring water to a boil and pour over tea. Steep until leaves and fully opened (4-5 minutes).
Swirl tea to even flavor and enjoy!
I purchased my Numi tea from World Market, which is a fabulous place if you’re looking for all things cultural; they have everything from exotic teas to a plethora of wines and coffee. My box includes four kinds of tea:
Dragon Lily: white tea with orange Lily petals have a velvety apricot flavor.
Sunset Oolong: Oolong tea leaves and Lily flower have nutty richness highlighted by peach.
Lavender Dream; Crisp, aromatic Lavender flowers compliment a tangy Hibiscus flower.
Golden Jasmine: Golden-tipped black tea scented with delicate jasmine imparts hints of chocolate.
More info about this tea: you can steep any of the blossoms tea for at least 2 or 3 more times before throwing it away. Personally, I would not use a bloom more than once, but it’s up to you. The tea (at least the Dragon Lily tea) has an herbal taste, not a lot of flavor, but very soothing. I think that the presentation of the tea makes up for the lack of flavor. I would definitely recommend adding some honey to “sweeten the pot” (pun intended)!
Retail price for this package of tea is $5.99 in-store and online at World Market.
