The Best of Pigeon Forge, TN

Sevierville is the place to be if you’re looking for a location that is fun for the family or just for couples. A few weeks ago, I spent four days in the Smoky Mountains and it was a time to remember, to say the least. If driving, it takes about four hours from South Carolina to the Pigeon Forge area in Tennessee. We made at least one stop for gas (my Bronco has excellent highway mileage!).

Our AirBnB was deep in the mountains. We didn’t get mountain views from the windows of our house, but our cabin was very cozy. We stayed at the Smoky Cubs Cabin. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a lovely kitchen. Our place was also pet-friendly which was very important to us because our dogs were traveling with us. The cost of our stay for three nights was about $710. Our host was great. The house was so cozy. It had a large living room and fully equipped kitchen although we didn’t spend a lot time indoors.

Gourmet Delights: Exploring Pigeon Forge's Local Goat Restaurant

We filled our days with adventure and memories. After we got the dogs settled in the pen, we went out to dinner. We asked the locals and it was recommended that we eat at the Local Goat, a popular restaurant in Pigeon Forge, located at the base of the Smoky Mountains. This charming eatery captures the essence of rustic elegance, offering a warm and inviting ambiance for patrons to indulge in delectable dishes.

The interior exudes a cozy atmosphere, with wooden accents and soft lighting creating a welcoming space for diners to relax and unwind. Aside from its picturesque views, The Local Goat’s cuisine was so delicious. I highly recommend their deep fried deviled eggs and their Fettuccine Rocco. The cocktails are also out of this world, 10 out of 10.

Titanic Attraction in Pigeon Forge, TN

After dinner, we decided that we went to explore one of their major attractions, so we bought tickets for $35 to the Titanic exhibit. I didn’t have any expectations because I wasn’t sure what type of experience the exhibition had to offer, but I have to say that it did not disappoint.

Located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the Titanic Attraction offers visitors a unique and immersive experience centered around the famous RMS Titanic. This impressive museum stands out with its full-scale exterior replica of the iconic ship, providing guests with the chance to step back in time and explore the history of the legendary vessel.

Upon entering the Titanic Attraction, we were transported to 1912, where we learned about the ship's construction, passengers, crew, and tragic voyage through a variety of exhibits and interactive displays. The museum features over 400 artifacts from the Titanic, including personal items from passengers and pieces of the ship itself, providing a fascinating glimpse into the past.

What’s unique about this attraction is that we got to experience what it was like to be a passenger on the Titanic, with recreations of first, second, and third-class accommodations, as well as the grand staircase and famous sloping decks. The attraction offers guided tours led by knowledgeable staff portraying actual Titanic crew members, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the experience. But we decided to tour the space on our own.

This fully interactive attraction demonstrated aspects of the Titanic like you wouldn’t imagine. We were able to observe how the stern of the ship lifted out of the water with real-life models. We tested the difficulty of climbing up towards the stern and the freezing temperature of the water around 28°F.

Premier Horseback Riding in the Smokies with Adventure Park

The next day, we chose adventure and booked a horseback riding excursion. Now, some of you may not know, but horseback riding has been in my family for years and I was ecstatic to introduce my passion with my partner. First, we had breakfast at Sunliner Diner. I wasn’t overly impressed by the food, but the aesthetics of the diner were cute. Located in the heart of Pigeon Forge, we were welcomed by a timeless interior design that combined classic 1950s charm with a modern touch. The retro-inspired decor featuring booth seating with bright red upholstery, vintage jukeboxes scattered throughout, and checkerboard floors that transport diners back in time. The walls are adorned with black-and-white photos capturing nostalgic moments, while the gleaming chrome accents add a touch of elegance to the space. While there, we had to try their milkshakes.

Later that morning, we booked a tour on horseback with Adventure Park at Five Oaks. For $54.99/person we road along a 3.5 mile trail with streams, mountain views, and an old moonshine still. I was impressed by the horses’ temperament. If you don’t do anything else in Pigeon Forge, you must go horseback riding (and whitewater rafting).

Unforgettable Whitewater Rafting with Smoky Mountain Outdoors

Full disclosure, I was very sick when we went whitewater rafting, but I didn’t want to miss out on the experience. We booked our adventure days in advance and it was the one thing that my partner wanted to do while we’re in Tennessee. We were surrounded by stunning natural beauty and felt the rush of adrenaline as we navigated through thrilling rapids of the Lower Pigeon River.

The skilled guides at Smoky Mountain Outdoors ensured a safe, yet invigorating, journey as our team of five paddled through the refreshing waters of the Pigeon River. As a first-time rafter, the lower Pigeon River offered a perfect balance of excitement and serenity. Aside from fighting with motion sickness, I enjoyed myself.

Maneuvering through the rapids demonstrated the sheer power of nature and the camaraderie that comes with conquering the river as a team. The backdrop of the Smoky Mountains adds an extra layer of grandeur to this already unforgettable experience. The cost of this excursion was about $36.95/person.
